MMK launches dynamic technology risk management system

Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has launched a new system that makes dynamic adjustments to the production process in a move aimed at lowering the rejection rate and reducing the risk of human error.

The system relies on adaptive technology and quality management, predictive analytics and big data analysis to detect transient behaviour and process upsets. If the risk of obtaining non-conforming products increases, the system notifies the relevant personnel, automatically generates a dynamic process map and applies corrective actions on the shop floor in accordance with the version of the technology selected for the specific units of production.

The new technology was first tested on process flows between MMK’s oxygen converter shop and hot-rolling Mill 5000, as well between the oxygen converter shop and sheet rolling shops No. 10 and No. 11. The system is currently being used as part of six process flows that cover MMK’s main production units.

In line with MMK’s digitalisation strategy, the solution was developed and integrated in a collaborative effort on the part of MMK-Informservice and Ausferr.
