MMK produced record volume of cast iron
Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has produced 10.28 mln tonnes of cast iron in 2014, a record for the whole period of its modern history.

The previous record was set 23 years ago, in 1991, when the mill operated 10 blast furnaces. However, the new 2014 record was set using only the eight blast furnaces currently operated at the mill.

MMK’s blast furnace department is one of the largest and most efficient in Russia. Its operational stability is crucial for all other production processes at the mill. The majority of MMK’s blast furnaces have been significantly modernised over the last 15 years. The upgrades include introduction of sinter fines extraction, installation of advanced feeding equipment and the active use of modern automation controls. Care for the environment also plays a significant role in the modernisation process. In particular, the level of fine dust emissions has been substantially reduced as a result of the installation of modern dust-collecting systems.
