OMZ Special Steels launches the upgraded AKK-12000 forging plant

OMZ Special Steels, part of OMZ Group, completed full repair of its 12,000 ton-force automated forging plant.

The repair included reconstruction of hydraulic system of the plants’ high and low pressure press systems, water recycling system of the power station, power supply systems and automated process control system with the replacement of boxes and remote controls. In addition the company held replacement of the entire cable system of the forging plant (more than 60 km of wires) and the switchgear, upgrade of MK-250 manipulator and the heating system alongside ventilation and lighting facilities of the complex. Connecting passage, basement and pumping room station were equipped with fire alarm and extinguishing systems. Additionally, OMZ Special Steels installed the new crane with lifting capacity of 5 tons.

At the moment the company holds commissioning works: configures the sensor equipment, performs synchronization of forging press and MK-250 manipulator work.

The AKK-12000 forging plant was developed by SMS Meer and commissioned in 1986. During the years of operation the equipment proved its reliability and performance. The modernization of the complex, held in summer 2012 will improve the accuracy of forging, allow tracking parameters of its systems in all modes, as well as improving overall reliability through the use of filtration systems, emulsion feed and use of modern equipment. The upgrade will allow further increasing capacity of the press up to 15,000 tons.

Total volume of investments in the project constitutes more than 520 million roubles.
