RUSAL to receive refund of EU anti-dumping duties

RUSAL to receive refund of EU anti-dumping duties

RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium producer, announces that the European Commission has considered legitimate RUSAL’s claim for a refund of anti-dumping duties paid in 2008 on imports of silicon metal from Russia to the EU by the Company’s silicon producers, SKU LLC and ZAO Kremny.

The decision no C (2012) 2064 final and C (2012) 2075 final was made on 29 March 2012, by the European Commission’s anti-dumping practice.

Application for a refund of anti-dumping duties paid was submitted by RUSAL for the EU Commission’s consideration on 11 March 2009. RUSAL’s claim related to silicon supplies to the EU in the period from 1 July 2008 to 31 December 2008. The EC judged the claim to be legitimate following thorough consideration and ruled to refund the duties paid in the amount of EUR 616,000.

‘Today’s decision of the European Commission has a great importance for the Company marking the transparency of RUSAL’s supply scheme,’ commented Sergey Chestnoy, Director of International Department at UC RUSAL.

Additional information:
SKU LLC (“Silicon-Urals”) produces metallurgical grade silicon and works on mastering the production of refined silicon. In 1998 the facility was spun off from the Urals aluminium smelter and incorporated as an independent entity. The facility produces silicon from quartzite, mined at Glukhovsky pit of the Banichsky mine in Ukraine (part of UC RUSAL).

ZAO Kremny (“Silicon”) is the only producer of refined silicon in Russia. In 1998 the facility was spun off from the Irkutsk aluminium smelter and incorporated as an independent entity. The plant produces silicon from quartzite, mined at Cheremshansky quartzite mine (part of UC RUSAL).
