OMK will put Mill – 5000 into operation in a month

In late October - early November 2011, the United Metallurgical Company (OMK) will start on Vyksa Steel Works (VSW) site – Metallurgical Complex Mill-5000 (MKS-5000) intended for the production of rolled plate (it will be used to manufacture pipes of large diameter). The Head of the construction project, Alexander Ribkin, has informed.

According to, Alexander Ribkin, the Head of the construction project, all scheduled work is almost completed, and in the near future hot testing should begin.

The total budget of the project amounted to 45 billion rubles (due to the tendering and implementation of various technical solutions, cost-effectiveness was achieved compared with the original estimates). Capacity of this power mill for the production of steel pipe grades is up to 1.5 million tons. Main aggregates (mountings) were supplied by foreign contractors and supporting ones by Russian contractors.

As mentioned by Alexander Ribkin, only two similar mills were built in Russia, one on Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works and the second one on Vyksa Steel Works. Over the globe such machines, (during last several years,) were introduced mainly in Asia - South Korea, India and China. As to the suppliers of slabs for the MKS-5000, OMK has a sufficient pool of reliable and experienced suppliers, which can be integrated into the logistic supply chain in order to produce high-quality sheet.

The MKS-5000, is nominated, by organizing committee of International Industrial Exhibition “Metal-Expo”, for the prize competition “The main (development) event of 2011 in Russian Metallurgy”. Award ceremony will be held on November 15th , during the official reception for a thousand people, at the opening of “Metal-Expo 2011”.
