New gas pipelines to be constructed using Magnitogorsk metal

On September 21st, visiting meeting of “Gazprom”, JSC with representatives of the leading Russian metallurgical and pipe companies was held in Chelyabinsk. Director General of “MMK”, JSC Boris Dubrovsky attended this meeting.

Forum participants discussed cooperation results of sheet metal strips and pipe manufacturers for “Gazprom”, JSC; as part of implementation of development strategy of Russian gas transportation system. One of the discussed goals was participation of Russian companies in Gazprom’s international projects, in particular, the development of the Shtokmanovsky deposit.
Import substitution program of pipe products, developed by “Gazprom”, JSC (until 2013), involves usage of large diameter pipes produced by Russian pipe plants, including rolled metal products by “MMK”, JSC.

Due to unique, for the domestic steel industry, technology, “MMK”, JSC’s mill 5000 is capable to produce high strength pipe billets for the manufacture pipes for oil and gas industry.
In 2010, as part of qualification process of “MMK”, JSC for participation in development project of the Shtokmanovsky deposit, the delegation of representatives of Saipem, Samsung Heavy Industries and Shtokman Developmtnt AG implementing the project visited the plant.

The representatives of these companies explored technical performance capabilities of “MMK”, JSC for the production of flats and rolled sections, which can be used in the “Shtokman” project, including production of rolled metal of strength category up to 420, thickness up to 50mm, capable of withstanding extremely low temperatures up to -600 C.

Magnitogorsk mill 5000 project will enable to produce almost any kind of plates, on the basis of the maximum requirements for large diameter pipes. These are conditions laid down by “Gazprom”, JSC.
