Metalloinvest’s products are REACH registered – the first in the Russian metallurgy

Metalloinvest Holding’s subsidiaries have successfully registered their principle products under European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use (EC 1907/2006, REACH).

They are the first among Russian companies of ferrous metallurgy to have the procedure completed.

All necessary registration dossiers were prepared and submitted to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) at the beginning of November, 2010. Currently REACH registration confirmations are received for iron ore pellets produced by Mikhailovsky and Lebedinsky mining plants, metalized pellets produced by Oskolsky electrometallurgical plant, hot briquetted iron produced by Lebedinsky mining plant and pig iron produced by Ural Steel.

Registration under REACH secures unimpeded supplies of the Holding’s products to the European markets after November 30, 2010 – the deadline for REACH registration of substances and products manufactured and exported to the European Union.

Metalloinvest’s registration dossiers were prepared considering recommendations of the Iron Platform consortium and a number of European companies.

According to the position of the European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (EUROFER) which is approved by ECHA, Metalloinvest’s steel products are classified as «articles» and do not require REACH certification.

The Iron Platform is an international consortium. Its mission is to provide a mechanism to enable various producers and suppliers to fulfill obligatory procedures under the REACH legislation for iron and iron containing products. The Iron Platform unites 70 world’s largest companies and industry organizations.
