Fifth patent for OAO Koks

An improved device for capturing dust exhaust during coke pushing has been patented. This is the second patent obtained for the dust-free coke pushing device. The invention essentially involves an improvement in the construction of a dust-free coke pushing device for which one patent has already been awarded. In the previous version, a ventilator used to isolate dust released during coke pushing was located directly in the «umbrella» installed above the quencher. While passing through the ventilator, the coke dust particles subjected it to intense mechanical wear that would periodically put it out of commission. The abrasive qualities of coke dust, as well as the location in a high-temperature area, took their toll. Now, the ventilator has been removed from this aggressive environment. It is no longer in direct contact with the coke dust, but rather collects air externally and creates an inducing jet of air that isolates the coke dust. In addition, changes were made to the structure of the atomizers. As a result, the dust is captured more effectively, the device is more dependable and works for longer periods in between repairs, and its maintenance has been simplfied. The efficiency of the new device, now at work in coke-oven plants Nos. 4 and 6, exceeds that of its predecessor, achieving more than 90% dust capture. This is the fifth patent OAO Koks specialists have received for the results of their scientific research. A sixth patent, for a dry coke quenching device, is now in the documentation process. Air conservation measures taken by OAO Koks, which include commissioning devices for capturing dust exhaust during coke pushing, have made it possible to reduce the specific discharge of pollutants into the atmosphere by 2.3 times. Today, the exhaust produced by OAO Koks stands at just 1.56 kg per tonne of coke, while the industry average remains between 5-6 kg per tonne of coke.
