Nickel and copper export duties can be increased

Nickel and copper export duties can be increased
First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov chairs held a meeting of the sub-commission of the Russian government on customs tariff and nontariff regulation and protective measures in foreign trade at last week.
Following discussion, the meeting participants recognized that it would be expedient to adjust the rates of customs duties on certain types of goods.

Given the increase in world prices for copper cathodes, the meeting participants decided that it would be appropriate to recommend to the Russian government to reapply a 10% export duty on this product, which was cancelled in 2009 as part of an anti-crisis measure.

They also recommended that the government of the Russian Federation increase the export duty on unalloyed nickel from 5% to 10%. This rate may be revised based on a comprehensive analysis of the impact of increased fees for Norilsk Nickel on the implementation of its investment and social programmes in 2010. First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov ordered federal executive agencies to arrange for the appropriate monitoring.
