Seversky Tube Works melted 1 millionth ton of electric steel

On June 25, 2010 Seversky Tube Works (part of TMK Group) melted 1 millionth ton of electric steel. Being one of the most contemporary complexes in Russia, the new electric steel melting complex has been designed and built with the application of the most up-to-date engineering developments. In a year and a half since an arc steel-melting furnace, the main unit of the complex has been put into operation the works has successfully mastered the new technology and reached the design capacity. A degassing plant, the last unit of the technological chain of the steel-melting complex was launched in November 2009. The total investments in the electric steel-melting complex facilities have reached some 15bn rubles. Today the complex fully meets the needs of the works in steel tubular billets. The production capacity of the complex reaches 1M t/y of electric steels or 950k t/y of continuous cast billets. Due to the electric steel-milting method the works has considerably extended the range of steel grades including highly alloyed and corrosion-resistant steels eventually improving the quality of products and raising competitiveness.
