Acroni enters the market of steel armour plates

At the beginning of April, tests were conducted on the ballistic protection of the new generation of armour plates PROTAC by Acroni, the SIJ Group – Slovenska industrija jekla, in Nikinci in Serbia. The aim of the tests was to determine the level of ballistic protection according to the NATO STANAG 4569 standard. The standard defines five levels of protection, and Level 3 is usually required in the manufacture of light armoured vehicles. By firing at the samples of 500 x 600 mm in size, the employees of Acroni checked whether the PROTAC 500 and PROTAC 550 steels are bullet-proof according to Level 3 of ballistic protection. The projectiles 7.62 x 54R AP (steel core hardness of 63 HRC) were fired from a Russian sniper rifle Dragunov. The distance between the samples and the firearm was 30 metres. The final velocity of the projectile was 850 m/s, on average. At a zero (90) degree angle, both samples of 13 mm steel were completely bullet-proof, whereas 8 mm and 10 mm samples were bullet-proof at a 30 (60) degree angle. These results raise Acroni's hopes and confirm that the planned path to develop a new generation of armour steel plates.
