MMK phases in new high strength steel grades for automotive sector

MMK's Rolling Shop # 5 produced and shipped to AVTOVAZ a trial lot of cold rolled strip from rephosphorized steel.

MMK is consistently working on expanding its product range through diversifying into new steel grades, especially high strength grades.

In November MMK's Rolling Shop # 5 produced and shipped a trial lot of cold rolled strip from 220 strength class rephosphorized steel intended for the AVTOVAZ car plant.

Rephosphorized steel (RS Steel) is characterized by a P content of up to 0.12%, which, in combination with other elements, improves not only such qualities as tensile and yield strength and elongation but also resistance to atmospheric corrosion and weldability. This is why such steel is widely used in the automotive sector. Today Rolling Shop 5 can produce cold rolled strip from 220 strength RS steel 0.7 to 2.8 mm thick to Russian and European standards.

Samples of the material were sent to Hyundai-KIA and the auto parts manufacturer DIPOS, with positive opinion obtained on the results of laboratory testing and trial stamping at the Korean carmaker's plant.
