Russia Helped to Build Boeing-787

New airliner Boeing-787, built with the active participation of Russian companies, will take its first flight in June this year. About 1’900 Russian engineers from different design offices work for Boeing. This was announced by Thomas Pickering, Boeing consultant and former US ambassador in Moscow, during the Global Russian Forum in the US Congress.

Speaking about the aircraft-building, Pickering pointed out the work «of the experienced Russian mathematicians in the field of aerodynamics». As a good example of cooperation the Boeing consultant has also mentioned that some assemblies of the new aircraft were borrowed from Russian manufacturers. Particularly, it concerns the landing gear assembly, which was borrowed from Тu-154. He noticed, that currently about 1’900 Russian engineers from different design offices work for Boeing.

According to Pickering, the new aircraft is made of composite materials - polymers and titanium, which has “strengthened” its structure. Titanium produced by the world’s largest titanium manufacture – VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation – was used in the new aircraft.
