NLMK in the list of Russian most innovative companies

Projects implemented by Novolipetsk Steel (‘NLMK’) in the course of the last 5 years are amongst the Top 50 most innovative projects undertaken by major Russian enterprises, according to research conducted by Mediaholding Expert. The research also includes NLMK in a list of the most innovative Russian companies.

The objective of the research was to determine key domestic producers with hands-on experience in implementing innovations. NLMK presented four projects: its in-house grain-oriented steel production process using Russia’s first laser treatment facility, a unique process producing galvanized steel sheets with thicknesses up to 0.22 and up to 4.0 mm, which are in high demand in the construction and white goods sectors, and a new technique for steel treatment during oxygen blowing in a Basic Oxygen Furnace (‘BOF’) vessel that allows to produce high quality steel grades.

A list of innovative projects implemented within the last 5 years was made based on the results of this research; it includes 33 major Russian companies.

For reference:

NLMK created Russia’s first laser treatment facility, which allows the Company to produce electrical steels at a new quality level. The reduction of specific magnetic losses in finished grain-oriented steels accounts for 8-10%, which resulted in higher competitive power and stronger position of NLMK in the global market.

Due to the construction of Hot-Dip Galvanizing Line No.3, NLMK was the first Russian company to start producing hot-dip galvanized strip with thickness 2.5-4.0 mm for the construction sector. Commissioning of Continuous Hot-Dip Galvanizing Line No.4, NLMK resulted in mastering a new product for the Russian market – galvanized sheet with thickness up to 0.22 mm.

NLMK designed a complex of equipment and process technology for steel nitration in the process of oxygen blowing in a BOF vessel in order to produce new steel grades, including those used for high-quality automotive sheet production.
