Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant increased zinc production in Q1 2010
Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant increased zinc production by 58.5% to 38.57kt in Q1 2010 as compared to corresponding period of 2009. Output of zinc and its alloys has increased by 5.1% compared to QIV 2009. Domestic supplies reached 44% of the total zinc output. The total amount of iron ore processing at Nova-Zinc (Kazakhstan), a sister company of Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant in Q1 reached 301.3kt (+55.7% as compared to corresponding period of 2009). Output of zinc concentrate over the 3 months dropped by 11.1% to 7.218kt as compared to corresponding period of 2009, lead concentrate: -18.5%, to 1028t. Average zinc contents in iron ore in Q1 reached 2.72%, lead: 0.43% (in Q1 2009: 3.11% and 0.54% respectively). Sales of zinc and aluminium alloys of The Brock Metal Company Limited (Great Britain), a sister company of Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant in Q1 increased by 45.7% to 7.388kt as compared to corresponding period of 2009.
