Severstal steel-making facilities to consolidate purchases

Results of the consolidated tender for purchase of graphitized electrodes for Severstal steel-making-facilities including CherMK, Lucchini (Italy), and SNA (USA) have been summed up.

According to I. Nechaev, Commercial Director, Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works, due to the consolidated purchases of graphitized electrodes estimated savings of Serverstal will reach some 30 mln rubles in 2010. The tender held by CherMK has been won by ERFT and SGL GROUP (Germany), UKAR GRAFIT (Spain), HEG (India), as well as Energoprom Management (Novocherkassk Electrode Plant, Russia).

I. Nechaev said: “It has not been our first experience of consolidated purchases. Severstal has cooperated with such well-known world producers of electrodes as Ukar Grafit and SGL GROUP for almost ten years appreciating high quality and consumer properties of the electrodes”.

According to I. Nechaev, the total purchase volume in 2010 will reach 7.1 ths tons. The first supplies are due in 1Q 2010.
